Decision boundary
This guide decides: which supply route remains plausible and which project inputs must be reviewed next.
This guide does not decide: retaining stability, hydraulic capacity, scour performance, anchor design, rockfall energy rating or project approval.
Route by duty before appearance.
Use a basket route for project-designed cellular mass, a mattress route for shallow area protection, a welded route where rigid panels and finish are required, and a sack route only when placement and access support that form. Draped rockfall mesh and anchored retention are separate geotechnical duties.
Separate cage supply from civil works.
The mesh unit, connections and packing can be quoted from a controlled schedule. Foundation, drainage, soil, fill, filter, hydraulics, anchors, catchment and installation release remain project inputs. Require every offer to state what is included, assumed and excluded.
Escalate performance-led requests.
Where the enquiry names a wall height, flow, scour, slope-retention force, block size or impact energy, route it to the responsible engineer. Where a tested rockfall barrier is requested, require the exact kit identity and assessment evidence before creating a supply claim.
Decision ledger
Use the actual condition to route the next review. This ledger is not a design table, rating or installation instruction.
Project-input schedule
Issue the same controlled inputs to every supplier. Keep unknowns open with an owner and due date.
What a usable supplier response returns
The response identifies the exact offered mesh or cage, unit and component quantities, material and coating basis, drawings, packing and document register. It separates confirmations from assumptions, options, exclusions and deviations. Civil, structural, hydraulic, geotechnical and rockfall decisions remain with their responsible project authorities.
Questions to close
- What must the system do, and what consequence controls the review?
- Which product form is requested without assuming performance?
- Which civil or geotechnical interfaces remain outside supply?
- Which exact evidence must map to the offered configuration?
- Who closes each unknown before release?
