Decision boundary
This guide decides: which material, component, coating and document fields belong in the enquiry.
This guide does not decide: availability, compliance, corrosion life, connection capacity or performance without exact supplier evidence.
Name each wire role.
Separate mesh/body wire, selvedge or edge wire, lacing wire, stiffeners and any fastener wire. Record nominal dimensions, tolerance basis and coating route for each. Do not infer that every component uses one diameter or one coating.
Treat diaphragms and joints as product definition.
List cell spacing, diaphragm construction, lid arrangement, edge treatment and connection method. Ask the supplier to return an assembly drawing and accessory quantity basis tied to every unit size.
Request coating evidence, not coating adjectives.
Terms such as galvanized, zinc-aluminium and polymer coated need an exact substrate, coating class or mass, polymer type where relevant, test method and document. Environmental service life still requires project-specific exposure and durability review.
Assembly reference · external video
See the connection action that “lacing wire” describes.
This 53-second demonstration turns an easy-to-misread schedule item into a visible assembly action: joining an edge, one panel to another and one gabion unit to the next.
What to watch for
- Closing and securing a gabion edge.
- Connecting one cage panel to another.
- Connecting adjacent gabion units.
Transferable lesson: “lacing wire” is not enough as a loose accessory label. The enquiry should identify every joint to be closed, the offered connection method, the wire specification and the quantity basis for each unit size.
Source boundary: the video is published by Gabion Baskets (Pty) Ltd. It is not an XIEHENG installation instruction and does not confirm our wire grade, coating, lacing spacing, tools, connection capacity or project approval.

Use the actual condition to route the next review. This ledger is not a design table, rating or installation instruction.
Project-input schedule
Issue the same controlled inputs to every supplier. Keep unknowns open with an owner and due date.
What a usable supplier response returns
The response identifies the exact offered mesh or cage, unit and component quantities, material and coating basis, drawings, packing and document register. It separates confirmations from assumptions, options, exclusions and deviations. Civil, structural, hydraulic, geotechnical and rockfall decisions remain with their responsible project authorities.
