Start with the clear opening.
Record who or what passes through, required clear width and height, approach direction, swing or travel area, threshold and adjacent fence alignment. A nominal gate-leaf width is not a reliable substitute for the required usable opening.
Choose movement from the available space.
Pedestrian and single- or double-swing gates need swing clearance and hold-open control. Rolling and cantilever slide gates need protected lateral travel, suitable support and maintenance access. State the preferred route but ask the supplier to expose its site assumptions.
Coordinate the gate as part of the fence.
Gate posts, hinges, latches, frames, braces, infill, bottom clearance and adjoining tensioned fabric must work together. The gate schedule should identify whether posts, hardware, locks, stops and adjacent fence transitions are included.
Separate manual hardware from access control.
A lock, padlock provision, mechanical latch, closer, intercom, reader, operator, safety device and emergency release are different scopes. Identify the responsible supplier, power/data route, fail state, integration, commissioning and maintenance owner.
Treat automation as a safety boundary.
Automated vehicular gates are governed by applicable product, installation and local safety requirements. This page can collect inputs, but it must not publish a generic sensor layout, force setting, speed or approval statement for an unreviewed project.

Carry these fields into the enquiry and return unknowns as open items instead of filling them with generic values.
What a usable supplier response should return.
A useful response does more than repeat the enquiry. It identifies the exact proposed product and component basis, uses the same units and location IDs as the buyer's schedule, and distinguishes confirmed values from assumptions. Where a field depends on a survey, responsible design input, local requirement or another trade, it should remain visibly open rather than being converted into a silent typical value.
The commercial offer should also state what is included, optional and excluded; which drawing or datasheet revision controls the answer; what evidence maps to the offered configuration; and what must be approved before fabrication. This lets buyers compare like with like and prevents a quotation from accidentally closing a structural, safety, civil or compliance decision.
