Temporary separation · controlled decision guide

Temporary Fencing & Hoarding Selection and Applications

Begin with what must be separated and who can approach it. Then route the enquiry to an opaque screen, open barrier, restricted-zone marker or low-speed parking interface without turning a catalogue image into a safety approval.

Decision boundary

This guide decides: which product family remains a plausible starting route and which project inputs must be reviewed next.

This guide does not decide: wind stability, fall protection, electrical insulation, crowd capacity, traffic approval, vehicle restraint or legal acceptance.

Name the separation duty before the product.

Record whether the line must screen a construction site, guide pedestrians, organize a controlled queue, mark a restricted work zone, separate an excavation area or protect a parking-space interface. Also state whether the public, workers, vehicles or vulnerable users can approach either side. These conditions change visibility, openings, stability, signs, access and approval responsibilities. A product name alone cannot close them.

Choose openness, mobility and access together.

Opaque hoarding can control views but changes wind exposure and sight lines. Open mesh or tubular barriers preserve visibility but do not create an opaque perimeter. Expandable units support short-duration indoor zoning, while larger panel systems suit repeated perimeter runs. Record relocation frequency, storage, gates, emergency access, vehicle crossings and the people responsible for moving or resetting the system.

Use a complete-system comparison.

Compare panels or barrier units together with bases, posts, braces, clamps, gates, signs, anchors or ballast, packing and inspection scope. Require each offer to identify assumed ground, layout, wind input, duration and quantity basis. Keep unknown values open. The responsible temporary-works, safety, traffic or facility reviewer decides whether the proposed system is acceptable at the actual location.

Branching duty ledger

Choose the next review route from the actual condition. The ledger is not a rating, approval or installation instruction.

Use the same revision for every supplier. Unknown values remain open items with an owner and due date.

What a usable supplier response returns

The response identifies the exact offered configuration, component quantities, drawing basis, materials or finishes, packing and document register. It separates confirmed values from assumptions, options, exclusions and deviations. Project safety, structural, electrical, traffic, accessibility and impact decisions stay with their responsible authorities.

Questions to close

  • What is the duty, and what outcome must not be inferred?
  • Who can approach each side during normal and abnormal use?
  • Is visibility or opaque screening required?
  • How often will the system be moved, opened or stored?
  • Which project authority owns stability, fall, electrical, traffic or impact review?
  • Which exact drawings and evidence must be returned with the offer?
