Describe the complete coating route.

State whether fabricated steel articles are batch hot-dip galvanized, coated after galvanizing, or supplied by another documented route. For a coloured finish, identify the base protection, coating family, colour reference and which components receive it. A colour name alone cannot establish corrosion protection.

Separate fabricated articles from fasteners.

Pales, rails, posts and fabricated gates may follow a different coating standard and process from bolts, nuts or proprietary locking hardware. Ask the supplier to map each document to the relevant component instead of presenting one generic galvanizing certificate for the whole system.

Record fabrication before and after coating.

Cut edges, welded attachments, drainage and venting, threads, contact surfaces and later site modifications can affect the final condition. The offered process should state the fabrication/coating sequence and how permitted repairs or touch-ups are identified, performed and recorded.

Make exposure and appearance separate decisions.

Coastal salt, industrial contamination, wet retention, soil contact, vegetation, cleaning chemicals, ultraviolet exposure and aesthetic colour stability are different inputs. Provide the site environment and desired appearance; do not convert a generic coating description into a service-life promise.

Plan receiving and maintenance evidence.

The packing and inspection record should help distinguish transport damage, handling marks, incomplete coverage, drainage staining and later site damage. Keep batch or lot identity, photographs, repair materials and accepted deviations with the project record.

Ask for a component-by-component finish return.

What a usable supplier response should return.

A useful response identifies the exact proposed component and drawing basis, uses the buyer's run and opening IDs, and separates confirmed values from assumptions. It should list inclusions, options, exclusions, deviations and the information still needed from the survey, project designer, installer, gate specialist or local authority.

Where a standard, certificate, test or inspection record is requested, the response should identify its edition, scope, issuing body and relationship to the exact offered configuration. Generic marketing language must not close an engineering, security, safety or compliance decision.
