When to use it
Converting a woven mesh count into nominal opening, micron size and open-area values for an enquiry or technical comparison.
Engineering calculator · square woven mesh
Turn mesh count and wire diameter into reproducible nominal geometry with metric and imperial input support.
Calculator
For plain square woven wire mesh, enter openings per inch and nominal wire diameter.
Nominal geometry only. It does not include weave crimp, wire-diameter tolerance, aperture tolerance, rectangular mesh, multi-ply construction or filtration performance.
Formula
A mesh number alone is not a complete specification.
pitch = 25.4 ÷ mesh countaperture = pitch − wire diameteropen area = (aperture ÷ pitch)² × 100%How to use the result
Use the result as a planning input, preserve the original assumptions, and ask the supplier to confirm product-specific values.
For square woven mesh, nominal aperture equals the 25.4 mm pitch divided by mesh count, minus wire diameter. Open area is the square of aperture divided by pitch.
Converting a woven mesh count into nominal opening, micron size and open-area values for an enquiry or technical comparison.
Openings per inch and nominal wire diameter, with the wire unit identified explicitly.
For 10 mesh with 0.50 mm wire, pitch is 2.54 mm, aperture is 2.04 mm and nominal open area is about 64.5%.
Specifying only the mesh count; two 10-mesh products can have different openings when their wire diameters differ.
