Name the product form before the blade code.

The enquiry should first distinguish a straight tape or wire route, a single-coil route, a concertina-related route, a flat arrangement or another supplier-proposed form. Commercial names are not always used consistently across markets. Ask the supplier to return a drawing or photograph of the exact offered form, identify how adjacent loops or runs are connected, and state what accessories are included. Do not use a family image as the dimensional definition.

Treat blade and core as separate controlled items.

A blade designation should be tied to a dimensioned profile, strip material and offered manufacturing route. The core wire requires its own material, diameter and coating or stainless route. The relationship between blade strip and core is part of the offered product definition. Avoid copying typical BTO/CBT tables from unrelated suppliers into a purchase specification; request the exact supplier schedule and map any standard reference to that configuration.

Coil geometry changes quantities and interfaces.

Outside diameter alone does not define a deployed coil. Record coil form, loop count or supplier basis, clip pattern, intended deployed coverage, packing state and overlap or termination assumptions. Quantity calculations must identify the run IDs, corners, gates, interruptions and end conditions used. Where dimensions are not yet approved, keep them open instead of inserting a typical extension length.

Complete the package boundary.

State whether the offer is wire or tape only, or whether it includes clips, tension wires, brackets, arms, fasteners, signs, packing and handling provisions. Supports, anchors, gates and the wall or fence substrate have independent design and responsibility questions. A component list improves quotation comparability but does not release installation or confirm that the combined system is safe or structurally adequate.

What a usable supplier response returns.

A usable response identifies the exact offered product, components, drawing basis and quantity calculation. It separates confirmed values from assumptions, options, exclusions and deviations. Product-family pictures and generic brochures remain orientation material, not acceptance evidence.

Where a standard, certificate, test or inspection record is requested, the response identifies the edition, scope, issuing body and relationship to the exact offered configuration. Missing survey, structural, safety, legal, animal, installation or security decisions remain visibly assigned to their responsible owner.

Questions to close before quotation or release.

  • Does the offered blade designation include a dimensioned profile?
  • Are blade strip, core wire and clips identified separately by material?
  • How is deployed coverage calculated and which assumptions control it?
  • Which accessories are included, optional or excluded?
  • What drawing controls corners, ends, gates and support interfaces?
  • Which claimed standard or test maps directly to the offered configuration?
